Como es costumbre Puro talento en la casa!!!!

MENEO es un ser prolífico donde los haya. Nacido en Guatemala, a los 18 años cursa musicología, organiza soirées de arte contemporáneo y co-funda Tripnótica, primer colectivo de música electrónica nacional. A los 21 es premiado con el máximo reconocimiento juvenil por su proyecto Democracia Sonora, un sample de voces captadas en la urbe remezcladas por dj’s locales, el cual le incita a indagar en la instalación sonora, disciplina que luego le lleva a ser invitado por medio mundo. Reacio a la inacción, a los 26 co-funda un café-galería bajo el nombre de SUAE, especial por ser la plataforma para toda una generación de creadores. Y el asunto sigue: organiza el primer Festival Centroamericano de Instalación Habitart y se introduce de lleno en la mezcla de géneros a través de las bandas Pealcubo (hardcore y reggaetón) y Chichikúa (electro-cumbia quartet). Con esta última banda viaja a Barcelona, donde se une a agrupaciones de oldskool funk y electro garage como teclista y cantante. Es allí donde co-funda microBCN, colectivo que genera música a través de gameboys, videojuegos y ordenadores obsoletos. Además de su labor como redactor cultural, se sumerge en la programación del barco Naumón de La Fura Dels Baus y la galería KBB; donde conoce y experimenta con contenidos intensos y performances desenfadados, ingredientes que engendran al apoteósico MENEO.

¿Y qué es exactamente MENEO? Es desmelene frenético y pop adulterado a manos del músico y productor guatemalteco Rigo Pex. Prístino y visionario de esta nueva ola latina que alberga a varios géneros salpicados por un cachondo electro, MENEO incita al movimiento malicioso con líricas bizarras y ritmos descarados, atentando contra el textil e incitando al naturismo en plena pista de baile, que le alejan del baile edulcorado.

En el 2008 MENEO fue seleccionado como una de las 30 bandas semifinalistas del Proyecto Demo y catalogados por Mondo Sonoro como cuarto mejor demo del año, ambas proezas si se considera que eran los únicos dirigidos a la pista de baile. Diplo, productor de MIA, alabó sus temas en Myspace y por ello su primer trabajo SANTA NALGA (DFE), ha sido masterizado por el staff de su sello Mad Decent. A partir de allí, su energética presencia escénica y salvajes vocales actuaron mas de 70 veces en 15 países, incluyendo algunos de los festivales mas punteros de Europa y el mundo como el Dour, Fusion, Primavera Sound, Misteryland, Transmusicales, SXSW… de paso abriendo para a artistas como Mr Oizo, Digitalism, etc.

Su nuevo trabajo “YATUSÁ!” desprende buena onda y alboroto desde el primer al último minuto. Letras mordaces y satíricas como “Toro Sentao” junto a historias bizarras como “Mareo” y “Sperm”, cocteleras sónicas de nueva modalidad donde las bases electrónicas, y el 8-bit se sirven en caliente. Luego es rima consonante e identidad trip-hop en “Say Bye» y “Madre Tierra” junto a voz marciana en “Say Bye». Su personaje negro en “I Want U”, tema de contagiosa armonía bien podría sonorizar cualquiera de sus fases. Su disco es una sucesión de temas que no dan tregua ni descanso creativo, una licuadora que rehuye de la copia que legitimiza. Dan fe de ello “Bolerto Glitch”, esperpéntico tema cuya carga hipnótica termina por transportarte en un viaje psicodélico y surrealista de aroma pop y “Booty Mambo”, un atractivo electro merengue instrumental acicalado con trompeta y percusión. Su disco es una invitación oficial a mundos de la honestidad sonora y sobre todas las cosas, a la fiesta de cuerpo y mente como los tracks «Vamos A Ver» y «Say Hello».

MENEO es el paradigma de la fusión, del todo es posible, de la mutante mezcolanza, pues se dice que la pureza está en la mezcla! ¿Y sus sesiones? Una concesión de deseos: piensa mal y acertarás. Prepárate porque “YATUSÁ!” llega con el personal y pegadizo universo musical de MENEO y perdérselo sería… ¡recatado!

«Not having listened to much Chiptune or 8bit tracks lately I had kinda written off the movement as a novel idea that dwindled. 4 years ago I was intrigued by making music using only 8bit Nintendo GameBoy sound effects – but the genre was kinda limited by purists who refused to mix the chiptune sound with any tech aided beat making. But now out of nowhere comes Meneo (out of Barcelona in reality) ! Dropping Gameboy reggaeton and lofi electro dancefloor killers – Meneo has been destroying the underground across Europe. These dudes get so loose they were banned in Sweden for on-stage nudity! (I thought the Swedes were some of the most open-minded on the nudie tip in all of the EU) Be on the look out for their «yo soy tu papi» cut which is a future dancefloor anthem in the making (paging Armand van Helden – consider remixing this jammy!).»

Somos una mezcla de ingenio, corazón y ganas de experimentar con los sonidos tradicionales que identifican latinoamérica con el objetivo de hacer música, festejar y cantar sobre la vida. Nuestra base musical son la síntesis digital y electrónica, sampleos de grabaciones incidentales, el dub y la cumbia, sincopándose con bajos tronados y ritmos negros y rockeros para generar el sonido que llamamos «Dumbia Oscura». El show en vivo integra visuales a tiempo real para producir una atmósfera gráfica que sea significativa para la audiencia.
